About altitude
Know that Machu Picchu is located 2438 meters above sea level, this is less height that the city of Cusco (3399 m), so you can have the so-called «altitude sickness» and before making any ride, should be acclimated and stay a few hours at the hotel. In that place, they will offer you coca tea a typical infusion that will help you recover quickly.
About the train
If you want to go on the Inca Trail or Inca Trail, you must buy a ticket at a travel agency or hire a tour operator authorized by the National Institute of Culture (INC).
About entrance
The entrance to the archaeological site is valid for 24 hours, but does not include the Huayna Picchu, for it must make an additional payment.
These tickets also can be purchased through online booking and well in advance, as there is high demand especially in high season.
About money
It is recommended to carry cash in Aguas Calientes, it is a town below Machu Picchu, as many establishments only accept cash.
About clothes
As for the clothes, it is preferable to bring a rain coat. Although Machu Picchu is jungle and it’s hot, the weather can change in minutes and suddenly can rain, cloud and very cold.
